Description.
The Multi Scanner has been designed and manufactured using the very latest state of the art electronics to allow clubs and individuals to monitor activity on the 40MHz surface band, frequency deviation and audio output has also been incorporated to allow basic checking of a transmitters accuracy. The unit is supplied complete with aerial, speaker and connecting jack plugs in a stand-alone box. External power is supplied via a 2.5mm jack plug, power can also be supplied from an internal user supplied and fitted nicad, (suggested size 1200 to 1800mA Hr sub C 6 cell pack) an external charging 2.5mm jack socket is fitted. (please note it is recommended that the internal battery is only trickle charged while fitted within the unit).
Operation.
Various modes of operation can be selected by pressing the function button, each depression moves to the next lower mode, (note once step mode is entered the scanner has to be switched of to reset back to near mode) the modes are as follows:-
Near mode.
Use when transmitters within 25 metres. This mode reduces swamping of the scanner by nearby transmitters. When transmitters are very close to the scanner, the aerial may need to be collapsed or removed to reduce swamping, and false indication of harmonics produced by some transmitters. Frequency deviation is NOT valid in this mode.
Far mode
Used when transmitters are in excess of 50 meters. This mode is also useful as a quick area check for transmitters not on site. Frequency deviation is NOT valid in this mode.
Pause mode
This mode will scan and pause for 5 seconds on each active channel, deviation operates in this mode also audio if speaker is connected. This mode is used mainly for transmitter checking. Operation of the deviation indicator is as follows, PPM transmitters tend to bias the frequency high or low, PCM tends to give equal bias, a transmitter that flickers the yellow led is acceptable but if either of the red leds are lit the transmitter should be considered as suspect and sent for servicing. Frequency deviation is a measurement of the change in the base frequency caused by the modulation signal, this will normally light three of the deviation leds.
Step mode
This mode is useful to check the local area for transmitters and uses the audio output to indicate transmitters operating at extreme range, the weakest signal that can be heard is approximately ten percent of that required to indicate on far scan mode. Frequency deviation is operational in this mode. If greater range and sensitivity is required please contact S.M. Services for further advice.
Memory Mode.
The function of memory mode is to allow the detection of interference, any signal detected will light the appropriate channel leds continuously and can only be cleared by turning the scanner off. This mode is entered by holding the function button depressed when the scanner is turned on, memory is only operational on near and far modes and is indicated by a slow flashing of the near or far led. To exit this mode, turn off the scanner.
Notes.
Do not operate the unit in direct sunlight, it is very easy to exceed the maximum temperature specification.
For consistent results the scanner should be operated on a flat surface at least 3 feet above ground with the aerial vertical and the unit should not held in the hand.
Internal battery installation.
1. Remove four screws from the base of the unit.
2. Locate the un-terminated fly lead in the rear battery compartment.
3. Fit matching battery connector to fly lead if the battery is to be fast charged externally, alternatively hardwire the leads if trickle charging is to be used.
4. Slide battery into the rear compartment and replace cover.
5. Check operation. If function leds flash charge battery.

RETURNS

Any returned products ordered in error or are not required will if returned unopened in original product packaging within 28 days from date of purchase be subject to a full refund less shipping charges and a 5% handling charge. All other returns will be subject to a full refund less shipping charges and a 20% handling charge.
